  • Marquez v Pac 3, 'marquez physique'

From watching the current trilogy i noticed marquez adapted well to the move up from lightweight to welterweight. I don't want to turn this thread into a debate about the true outcome, rather question what sort of strength and conditioning marquez undertook to get into such great shape for this bout.

I am currently training for an amateur university bout, my strong characteristics are counter boxing and quick reactions. I try to emulate marquez style of orthdox disciplined boxing therefore i was wondering what type of routine roughly he would have undertaken or maybe a similar routine people have taken. From the strong upper shoulders, strong core torso to the light nimble legs for speed i would like to train to this physique.

If anyone has a response i would be grateful for the comments.

What the hell are you talking about? JMM looked fat, slow and seemed clumsy at that weight!

      re

I personally felt he was in good shape the photos are a bit ****e, people might say he is a blown up lightweight but i felt he adapted well for his second bout in the division especially against the elite of that division, basically i am refering to the compact upper body for power and defense but fast legs speed and reactions.

The second episode of Pacquiao Marquez 24/7 showed a short snippet of what type of weight training JMM was doing.

It basically explosive movements with weights.

They showed about 4-5 different variations.

        I'm assuming you watched this?

Explose lifting with ligter weights and plyo metrics. You will find the routines online, anything that targets fast twitch muscle fibres.

heavy weights low reps target fast twitch not light weight high rep learn some facts. plyometrics are good. it really has little to do with actual training. i think hopkins bumping up to lhw was more impressive he looked very good there. basically scale back the frequency of your long distance runs. do more intervals at the track. most importantly your diet has to change. im not talking about pizza and beer. hopkins said the meals he was eating 4-5 times a day, he ate 7-8 times a day. same clean meals, just more of it.

So try and bench 250lbs explosivly to target your fast twitch...yer, ok buddy.

I don't see how lifting lighter weights explosively to fire up your fast twitch fibres and simulating the same effects as plyometrics would work...oh wait.

Marquez v Pac 3 marquez physique

But be wary bro, Pacman will have a different training regimen for Marquez. So dont be so sure about that prediction. For all we know, Marquez will be kissing the canvass once again, this time he will not beat the count.
