Hey, is it possible to do plenty of running while still packing on muscle from lifting weights. If so how do you do this ? I hear that running makes it very hard to gain any kind of weight including muscle mass. Any help/advice would be greatly appritiated!

I read somewhere that if you want to build muscle you need to minimise areobic exercise as they are not mutually conducive. It reccommended three intense 20 minute sessions a week. Of course, this won't do a lot for your areobic fitness and endurance in the ring.

You can try some periodisation in your training if you want. For example, about 2-3 months out from a fight, concentrate on the resistance training with minimal aerobic training ie. longer distance running. Thus, hopefully, putting on more muscle mass while maintaining good aerobic fitness. 1 month out from a fight, change your running to interval training eg. shorter distance running but with higher intensity, and ease up on resistance training. This will maintain your muscle mass (hence, strength) yet improve your anaerobic endurance, which is more specific to a 3 minute round.

if ur tryn 2 put muscle on for boxing thru weights and keep ur cardio up at sametime thru roadwork, it doesnt work aswell as thought.
i tried it, but the routine wasnt specific for demands put on ur body in the ring.
200, 400 and 800 m runs replicate the type of cardio work u get from doing an intense round.
thing is weights pump muslces up so 2 speak, the intense pump of weights pumps fluids and blood into them, plus tears them requring repair.
running burns fluids, fats and muscle hence u dont build extra muscles.
people gotta remember, every gram of fat u burn, u will burn muscle.
id davise do some swimming, its so underrated becos swimmers have a bad stereotype about them ..eg. small speedos and gay accents.
i dont take a fight unless i have done some swimming within 2 weeks leading 2 the fite.
another thing u can do is cut running down and lift weights more often.
run twice a week and do ur normal workouts per usual.

Try increasing your daily intake of protein with whole foods and shakes/bars. Also, you may find yourself losing weight at first because building lean muscle takes time. Eventually it will balance out and you will be able to gain muscle while staying in good cardio shape.

to gain muscle mass you must consume more calories than you burn.
