  • Is there a muscle that...

makes a bulge/hard lump in your armpits when you touch the back of your neck with your hands?

I just noticed these bulges in my armpits when i do this. When i raise my hand without tensing they don't appear but when i touch the back of my head or tense whilst my arm is raised they do. Is this normal?

Is this my Teres major muscle?

My bet would be lymph nodes!

I'll bet they get bigger when you have a small infection in your hands, for example when you've rubbed a bit of skin off your knuckles when doing bag work without proper bandaging.

Nothing to worry about, if they are swollen....it shows that they are working!

I thought lymph nodes but wouldn't they be tender and painful and around the size of a pea?

They'll be bigger if they are swollen! They can scare the crap out of people who start to question if they have cancerous tumours, but I'd bet my life that you're perfectly healthy.

I once had a swollen lymph node in my groin area, I cant say that it was particularly sore. These are largely responsible for dealing with infections in the lower leg and foot. I was worried, but a full examination by my doctor (female) confirmed that all was well in the region!!!

They can flare up in the armpits with infections in the arm and/or hand and stay 'up' for a while after symptoms have disappeared. They are particularly notorious in boxers for obvious reason.

I'd personally not share other guy's gloves in the gym, even a small cut or graze being bathed in someone else's congealed blood and sweat is a recipe for infection.

Na, you wont see your latissimus dorsi quite in your armpit. The muscle starts further down and runs around your mid back.

              Check out google images.

My money is still on Lymph nodes.

I seriously don't think it's that. When my arms are relaxed even when raised there is no lump. But if i raise my shoulder as well the bulges begin to appear. A swollen lymph node would be there constantly.

These bulges are about 3/4 the size of my little finger and when i run my finger across them they go all the way to my scapula.

Oh......if its long and thin, then a tendon would be more likely.

Sorry, I had something more circular to mind!
