  • Sore proximal phalange bone?

Hey, what's up. So about a week ago I started noticing that the area where you put your wedding ring on my left hand is sore on the palm side. So if i remember right, it would technically be in the middle of my proximal phalange bone. My joints aren't sore. In fact I can move it just fine, grab stuff with no pain, everything is fine, except for this soreness/bruised feeling when i press on the bone or clench my fist.

It started happening I think the second day I punched my punching bag (70-75 lbs). I use the yellow 180" wraps and everlast protex 2 evergel training gloves. I wrap my hands much like this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLJEQ...eature=related. And I clench my fist before I punch. The cause could actually be the fact that I haven't moved around the sandbags in the heavy bag at the bottom since it feels like punching bricks. I'll definitely fix that now that i'm thinking of it..

But what do you guys think of my sore/bruised finger? I just wanted to ask for some opinions before asking a doctor, maybe others here had the same problem.

Its possible you have bruised your bone, ive done this before (not in my hands) and its sounds similar, its tender to the touch but you canot see any issues. If after 5 days or so its not less painful or gone, Id go see your doctor and ask about a possible xray. As there are so many bones in your hands its hard to tell...

Thought so, thanks for replying! Yea I'm definitely gonna move around the stuffing and sandbags at the bottom of my bag. I think some sand actually spilled out and got compacted at the bottom. But regardless, no bag work for me for a while. At least with my hands I can still weight lift and/or practice my muay thai and karate. Pretty sure that won't aggravate my bruised bone..

Try shadowboxing instead of your bag work, it should keep you busy and give you a chance to work on form. Yea whatever you do don't jump on the bag to early. When you feel your ready double wrap your hands or something..

Good luck and keep at it mate

Yup yup most definitely. I think I'll actually try putting gauze in my wraps when I feel better.

But it's a weird thing, when i punched with my gloves and then relaxed my fist, my fingers would hurt, even though I punch (or try to most of the time) with my first two knuckles. But when I punch with just my wraps, it doesn't hurt at all. Granted I don't punch quite as hard as with gloves on..
