  • Is my form/techniques okay?

    Hello fellow boxers.

I took a video of me yesterday shadowboxing after my gymwork, and I was wondering if you would observe me doing it and give me some critiques and advice on improvements.

I only know how to throw a jab, one-two, 1,2,3 and a 1,2,3,4 so I might be not that good.

do you guys think im ready to move on to the next level? as far as now i did a couple of mass boxing but not much sparring. i was focusing on technique/forms because i do realize that i tend to throw arm punches when i get up on the ring.

I took a video of me doing mitt works but im just not gonna post it cause my coach was being goofy as **** and he wouldn't stop even if i told him to :-/

anyways, i appreciate you guys for taking your time

    thanks.

You're a new guy, props for putting your work up.

This is all constructive critism not meant to belittle but rather to help you see.

First thing that I noticed was a limp left wrist. You have to keep that wrist in line with your forearm. Meaning don't turn it in when throwing your shots, you will injure your wrist in time.

Aswell, you will want to complete your righthands by turning the shot over. Doing what you are doing you are just pushing the right hand. Take the time to turn it over completely and you'll find more power in your shots. Turn it so that your knuckles are atleast parralel to the floor to finish the shot.

Descent hook, but I noticed that your left foot does not turn with it which means that you are not turning your hips with it which in turn leads to no authority in the shot. Turn your body into the shot, get that rotation. Aswell, don't throw your hook so close to your face. When you dig a 1-2 and bring the hook behind it your opponent should be at the end of your right hand when bringing the hook. Throw it so close to your face and it will come up short on a regular basis.

In time you are going to want to speed up your combos and punches. I know that you are in a small confined space when working but you could still speed them up. Ofcourse form is an issue so get the form down pat and when you have it immediately start getting those shots off faster

Not bad for a new guy. Keep on working and good luck with it all.........Rockin'

What Rockin said...i cant find really anything else to hide cept possibly make ur punches tighter i usually like my shoulder to touch my cheek a bit...other than that i think there is good potential no doubt...wish some of my "regular" boxers would look that good lol

You bend your knees and set on the balls of your feet better than most 1st timers, however your elbows are a bit to far out bring them elbows in, when you jab or throw the right hand turn those shots over, meaning when you extend twist that fist, Thumb down as you punch thumb back up as you bring the hand back
        Not bad at all

thanks guys, im glad i was being self conscious about my form 'cause my coach always criticizes it for not using my feet lol. still more work needed, i got that. i also did my first sparring yesterday, and i was exhausted at the middle of the second round i was so tired that i even throw a right hook that i never learned before. do you guys think i should work on what im doing right now before i begin learning new punches like uppercuts and hooks or am i ready? ill post a video of me sparring if i can thanks in advance.

My very first coach told me, if you stick to the basics you will never have to go back to them.....

Meaning perfect the basics kid, the hooks and uppercuts will come along as time goes by. The basics are what start it and finish it, they keep you safe when your tired or hurt and they also keep you in the fight in terms of scoring.

if you stick with them you wont have to go back to them....
