Hey everybody im 18, 5'10 and 144 pounds (im not too old to start am i?) For the past 6 weeks i've been hitting the gym 4 times a week with focus on gaining muscle mass. I've kept a very strict diet in that time and i've gained 3-4 pounds of mostly muscle so far. However within the last week or two I've really gotten into the idea of starting to box. Now, im no stranger to hard work. I've played basketball at a very competitive level since I was eight. I understand Boxing is the the most physical demanding sport but I know im ready for the grueling training. So on to my questions. Firstly my original plan before boxing even came up was to get to around 160 within 6-9 months. But i really want to start boxing soon but I realize it would be difficult to gain weight if i began boxing classes. I was thinking maybe buy a pair of cheap everlast gloves ( terrible gloves i know) and just start using the heavy bag at my gym and skip rope two times a week in addition to weight training? Should i do that or just join a boxing gym ASAP.. Thanks ahead of time for everyones help

join a gym....NO ur not too old at all to start...and I'd suggest u stay at the 140-155lb area...in amateurs they dont really cut weight..its kinda dumb..sure mayb 3-5lbs but not drastic like some do in the pros...wether ur in shape or not..get to a boxing gym...if its a good gym it doesnt matter ur skill level everyone is at a diff level and its just best to get started NOW then later as later may result in not at all

join a gym, do some hard working (once you do it a few times you will be used to it) stay in your weight for now, and keep us updated with your progress!

Get in boxing shape and let your body weigh whatever it wants.
