Any smokers here that are fit?

I want to get back into running etc but I don't want to give up smoking.

You can improve your running whilst still smoking, but it will surely hold your progress back.

Its like saying 'I want to lose weight but not give up junk food'. Granted it can be done but why make it harder for yourself?

    There are options:

    1) Cut down on the ciggies each day, seeing as you dont want to give up.

    2) Wear nicorette patches

    3) Use the electronic ciggies at home when no one is watching. Alot of smokers still think it looks cool to smoke, so I can understand you not wanting to use one of these in public. You still get your nicotine hit but without the tar, carcinogens and black carbon deposits hitting your lungs.

    4) Dont inhale! I know this sounds like I'm missing the point of smoking but you dont have to drag the smoke into your lungs. If you like the image, the smell, the taste and the social side of being a smoker, restrict the amount of times you actually inhale, or just keep the smoke in your mouth before exhaling......many cigar smokers wont let it touch their lungs!

Great post very helpful thank you.

I'm going to try and cut down on smoking, just keep it for when I'm out with friends rather than everyday every couple of hours.

I try to make it to the gym as much as possible. But I am a smoker as well, and I'm telling you, I've quit for as much as two years, and the difference is amazing.

I usually find I can literally get twice as much done in one workout. Quitting is really hard for the first week though. It seems like it's impossible, TBH.

I smoke about 15-20 a day and I usually go gym 2-3 times a week and boxing twice. Last week I havent done anythign though. I wish i never smoked in my life, such a waste fo money.

It is harder to work out as a smoker, tired quicker, and you just sometimes feel too **** to do anything.

Impossible. I was smoking 12 a day when I started training and get bashed about sparring no matter how much I trained or how good I was. Only got good when I quit smoking!

I used to smoke, quit about 2 or 3 years ago.

Really wish I had never smoked though, my fitness was so bad when I started boxing and it meant I didnt progress as fast as I should have because my lack of stamina held me back big time.

Didnt even smoke that much really, a ten pack would last me 4 days or so but it has a massive effect on fitness

Im not sure there are any "fit" smokers. If youre a smoker eventually you won't be able to train hard enough to be fit because of all the negative effects of smoking. Quit while you can, thats the best advice as far as smoking goes. I quit when I was 36, after a heart attack. good luck.

Offtopic but I suggest you try swedish snus. It's some good ****! A very under appreciated nicotine product, smoking is so catastrophical to your health. Much healthier than smoking and higher nicotine content compared to nicorette etc, it will keep that nicotine buzz going. Without psychological dependencies it's easy to substitute smoking with that stuff, although I suspect it may lead to stronger physical addiction because of the ease of use.
