I had a 165lb St. Bernard dog named Larry(R.I.P). For strength I would put him on my shoulders and walk up and down the bleachers at my High School for 45 minutesl. Man that worked great. Do you have a dog?...........Rockin'
I know from personal experience and from others that ankle weights will just mess up your ankles if you use it for quick, more strenuous movements like running/sprinting. It's so much more useful to just do barbell squats or dumbell squats. One legged squats are really good for building leg strength. They're pretty challenging at first, but fun.

What was wrong with carrying inanimate objects, lol? would you wanna sit on someones shoulders for 45 minutes up and down the bleachers just sayin
just to understand, walking around all day with ankle weights could be good? help burn fat ? or strenghten the legs? or both?
walking with ankle weights will help burn fat. your body uses fat and carbs as its main source of fuel. with low intensity exercise like walking you body tends to use a greater % of fat as fuel. with high intensity exercises like sprinting your body tends to use a higher % of carbs/glucose as fuel.
when you walk around with ankle weights you add resistance to normal walking increasing the calories burned, because walking is still low intensity even with the ankle weights you burn more fat day to day.
your not going to notice much increases in leg strength so your going to want to do long distance jogging, sprinting, and strength training for this.
i dont know how good walking around with ankle weights on all day is, but an hour walk everyday with ankle weights will defiantly help you burn fat with out damaging your joints. you can up the calories burned even more by adding things like a backpack with weights, a weighted vest, or carrying light 5-10 lb dumbells while you walk and doing arm/shoulder/back exercises such as curling, lat raises, over head presses, and anything else you can think of.

very interesting stuff!
SO if I understand this right.... cycling on a stationnary bike at 150 bpm doesn't really help you lose fat? running without sprinting helps more?
A friend of mine told me to walk uphill to lose weight. now I understand why... it's like walking with weights, right?
and if I do this, walk one hour a day with wieghts, and do arm exercises, I will burn fat AND strenghten my shoulders? that would be nice...
