    Question about jabbing?

I have been told 2 different things about the jab. 1st is that you should step into the jab with your leading foot and someone else told me you shouldn't lift your leading foot at all when throwing a jab and kind of push off your back foot.

Sorry if this is a ****** question but i am a complete novice at boxing. Any tips or suggestions on footwork would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on how far your opponent is from you. And depends if your throwing a jab to find your range or as a distraction or if your throwing a stiff jab.

I like to use the jab to keep the opponent at distance and to set up the straight right.

My advice it learn all flavors of the Jab..Then Jab Jab Jab tell you arm wants to be amputated..A Step in will give you extra power but it can be read..Need fast feat to pull it of well.. You also need A neutral Jab to keep space and a backpedaling jab to interrupt an incoming assault. In sparing like to back a step or two set really quick and unload with a fast jab and a right then slip to the side ..Your body and a heavy bag will let you know what jab you can throw with the most stink..Just got done throwing 12 rounds with just my left arm all my cardio ability going to that jab and footwork. I think my arm is going to file for a divorce tomorrow.

Personally I find that focusing on pushing off from your back foot is more affective. Your still going to step in with your lead foot but focusing on pushing of with your backfoot instead of steeping in with your frontfoot keeps you from falling in with your jab when your jabbing from the outside especially. you can also have an effective jab from farther away and this will help you control distance.
