    2 quick questions!!!

    Hey guys, as above!

    1) Do you keep your fists clenched at all times even when in the guard and out of range? Or do you keep them relaxed and only clench on the point of impact.

    2) Do you throw your lead hooks with your palms facing towards yourself or downwards? It feels natural for me to throw it downwards when shadowboxing, but the complete opposite when I'm gloved up and on the bag, mitts or sparring!

    thanks!

I'm only a newbie to the sport so take this with a pinch of salt, it's only my opinion and not fact

    1) Relaxed until point of impact, otherwise you're tight and not as fluid as you should be. I find it uncomfortable to be tensed up all the time.

    2) I'm exactly the same, palms down while shadowboxing and palms to me while on the bag. My coach recently said that the judges in amateur bouts are getting fussy about scoring hooks thrown that way, so i have to start throwing them palms down all the time. Whether there is any truth behind it or not, i couldnt say.

palm facing your self for any hook other then when your on the inside. palm facing down when your on the inside.

with the weight of the gloves you naturally open up your hooks with out the weight of the gloves you naturally keep the hooks tight.

with an open hook palm facing your self feels better and with a tight hook palm down feels better.

try throwing some really tight hooks, gloves on, with your palm down and it shouldnt feel all that diffrent from shadowboxing. also its hard to throw proper lefts on the heavy bag work on proper hooks with the speed bag then move to the heavy bag.

For long range hooks I prefer palms facing down - as Fergsuk as already mentioned, this way seems easier to land with the knuckle part of the glove.

For close range, I allow my boxers, to throw the hook however they feel comfortable. Personally, I prefer my palm to facing me when fighting at closer ranges.

Different coaches have differnt opinions on this - as long as you land with the knuckle part of the glove - it doesn't really matter.

just to clarify what exactly did he mention? quoting would be nice if you could.

like are you his coach like he mentioned that his coach prefers the palm facing down or that some where he mentioned that he himself prefers palm down when throwing long range?

I should have been more clear. Clearly his coach wants palms down because if palms are facing in, at longe range it can be difficult to land with the correct part of the glove. Thus judges will not score the shot.
However, at close range it easy to land with correct part of the glove with either position.

i have no problem with your opinion, using some one else's post to back up your opinion when the other post says something different is a different matter.

if you were saying your a coach like fergsuk's coach and you agree with his coach then i have no problem at all if your saying that fergsuk said that when throwing long range he feels more comfortably with his palm down i think there might be a mis-communication, i just wouldnt want that mis-communication to continue but at the same time if thats not what your saying i and your saying the first i wouldnt want to just go and call you out on that with out clarifying first, thus my previous post.

              thank you for clarifying.

Just re-read my posts ... my bad.

Just remove the part where I said ... "as Fergsuk as already mentioned" ... and that is my opinion on the matter.

                Apologies.

To be fair my post does seem a little ambiguous and could easily be misconstrued.

I find it easier to land with clear knuckle contact while throwing hooks palms to me, just feels right. I do have to throw them palms down though and learn to do that without thinking or the shots wont count. Close or long range doesnt matter supposedly. They have to be thrown with what the judges deem "correct form" or you're not scoring from it. Whether this has been pushed through everywhere or on the local scene here i'm not sure. It could even be that my coach is trying to ensure i definitely throw that way to not skank myself out of points, shock tactics so to speak. Who knows?

dont clinch your hands at all times. when you throw punches only. your hands will get tired pretty fast
