Why do people always try to make weight by dehydrating themselves, not eating, etc. I could never understand why people in the AMS would rather not fight at their natural weight. I mean I would rather have plenty of energy and strength than kill myself just to have a few inches height and reach advantage and have no legs, no energy, no strength, no resiliency. So what if the gut is taller than you at your natural weight, its a guarantee if you go to his body hes a dead man walking, plus ull have the energy to move around box outside box inside as well as throw as many combos as you damn well please, unless you are pro there is no feasible reason to kill yourself to make weight. Im 5'8 and make 140 eating anything I want now for my height that's a great weight class with all my muscle tone endurance and strength. Sure icould make 132 with effort but why give up such great natural advantages already just for advantages that are mostly in the mind. Guys needed to just put in work, eat healthy and feel comfortable. Good luck and good training to all the guys here.

bcuz hello u can start ur career beatin up on little guys n as u grow older n ur body matures n ur metabolism slows n ur body naturally settles @ a heavier weight-- you can go up weight classes up to ppl who r still only ur size.

f u start at ur natural weight when u get heavier all of a sudden ur n the same weight class as big ass mother****ers. now that s sum simple ass logic. i dunno y u had 2 start a thread bout it.

      i apologize 4 being rude but i just started cutn weight n i am hungry n grouchy n i just want 2 beat a woman i am 2 xhausted 2 even **********.

in response, ricardo lopez, mickey ward, they all said boxers go up in weight because they dont out the necessary time in the gym. Not every boxer goes up in weight. Some actually put the work in. so what youre saying is that the older you get you more slack you get to make weight simple because youre older? There are plenty of examples proving this wrong. Aside from that, you're cutting weight so you're in a ****ed up place right now, thats why ure cranky and cant get the nut off lol sorry that sucks

Being bigger and stronger than your opponent is always going to be an advantage, period.

I had a fight at 178 and I got beat the **** up. Had no idea what to do once I realized I was getting ktfo if I let my hands go.

When I'm in with guys in the 150's and 160's, I tend to beat them up because I can afford to take a clean counter off them, thus enabling me to let my hands go.

Simple. It's easier to beat people up when you're bigger than they are.

Amature fighters should not be cutting serious weight. It should gradually fall off, and at the most you should cut is a few lbs. Cutting anymore then 3-4 lbs is going to be nothing but detrimental to an amature fighter. You have a few hours at most to rehydrate and nourish your body, and if in a tournament you really can't even do that.

I've gone over this numerous times on these forums, people still don't understand it. Professional fighters have over 24 hours to rehdyrate and replenish their body. If you think 2 or 3 hours is going to revive you, you're wrong.

This is an interesting post. I've never thought of it like this.

I've been told that the rule of thumb is you fight 10-15 pounds under your walking around weight.

I walk about 152, so I shouldn't cut to 141 for my first amateur match?

The way i do it is i lose weigh gradually by dieting, so on the actual day of the fight i always have 2 big bowl of weatabix and a banana and dont cut any water weight realy (just obviously i dont go downing loads of water day off). So overall i dont realy feel drained at all just crave all the food i been cutting out. I never use sweat suits or saunas they make me feel weak.

Although i think this is the last time im going to gain 10lb or so again after a fight, no point. I dont stop training hard after fights, i just tend to lose my dicipline with my diet. Which in the long term isnt worth it.
