  • I Need Help

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum.

I really need help on how to eat right, and get in shape.

So I'm 18 years old, 6 foot tall and 140 pounds.

I'm not necessarily looking to gain weight, because I see being this tall at this weight could be an advantage (reach) in the ring.

But I have no prior boxing experience, and I'm not exactly sure what I need to do, and what I need to eat, to get into boxing shape as quick as possible.

I'm a guy who isn't too muscular, and I pretty much would only eat pizza, and simple stuff,

Starting Monday I'm going to be in a boxing gym, so I can get trained and get in shape,

but I'm just curious on any tips for day to day stuff?

I started running today, and I plan to run a few miles a day.

And again, what foods are the best to eat? I really can't cook for anything, so canned stuff is probably the best suggestions. I ate scrambled eggs with half of the eggs with no yoke. And also had oatmeal, with cinnamon.

Again, I don't just want acceptable things I guess, I want to be the best and eat the best,

(Random foods I typically like to eat: Chicken Nuggets, Macaroni/Cheese, Noodles (with parmesan cheese), pizza, hot wings, burritos/tacos)

And I gave that list just in case maybe the noodles, or the chicken nuggets or something would be "the best". I have no idea with nutrition stuff and what I should be looking for.

Please help this skinny, and tall kid become the best amateur boxer I can be as quick as possible (I know it will take a ton of work and a while, but give all the advice you can, thanks!)

Also, I'm not sure if this applies or not to advice,

but I do have something slightly wrong with my back, Something on my back isn't attached fully to my spine, something like that. So it's POSSIBLE that through really heavy lifting I could screw my back up. And then I would need surgery, but it's been over 2 years since I had that appointment and I've been fine, not sure if I should avoid certain lifting or anything.

      Bump!

And ill try to summarize it here:

18 years old, no boxing experience, but a love for the sport, who wants to get started,

      140 pounds, 6 foot tall.

What do you recommend for my training, and eating? (to be the best?) I'm not too muscular or anything. So I will definitely need to get in shape.

      And can I/should I eat:

Elbow noodles, with slight amount of margerine/parmesan cheese,
      macaroni/cheese
      chicken nuggets
chicken, rice, breadstick (sort of like a roll) (Captain D's)
      Jr. Roast Beef (Arby's)
Subway Sub w/ Pepperjack, Salomi, and Pepperoni
      Sausage.

Those are things I like to eat, and I would like feedback at least on the first few items,

I know it's a little work but I need as much help as I can get, as fast as I can get it, appreciate it!

You know what's good for you and what isn't.

And with that height/weight ratio and the diet you described, I assume weight won't be an issue for you as you probably have a fast metabolism. So just drink a lot of water and eat what makes you feel best in training. Go with what works.

        PS
You might want to get some therapy on that back problem. Boxing works your back and overworks it. All the punches you throw have some sort of whipping motion involved, and your back does a lot of work. My back is actually "overdeveloped" on the right side from boxing, and it pulls my spine out of alignment. So yeah, boxing isn't going to be any easier on your back than weight lifting.
