  • Not wanting to compete

I been boxing for a few years now but mainly to get my MMA better.... lately ive had a increase in my boxing training and seem to like boxing a bit more since these past few months.... my trainers want me to compete in boxing but I tell them Im just not interested and want to get my striking for MMA better.... it sucks tho because I have thoughts on doing a boxing match but at the same time I just dont...there's always that good kid at the gym who has the skills but doesn't want to compete....

What's your thoughts on this? Not even just for my situation but ppl in general with talent not wanting to compete. Because its quite frequent actually

Haha had the same problem when i was doing muai thai. I was constanly harrassed to join their fight team. I would even spare with the fighters and fair pretty well. I had no interest in fighting in smoker tourneys. I just trained hard for self defense for any potential street fights. I know the feeling but just say your not interested, thought they will get frustrated. It aint our fault we have mad skills haha.

Well if you truly don't want to, then don't.

But getting in the ring for amateur boxing will help your mma as well (I assume you want to compete in that?). Just by getting experience against a live opponent, with judges, in front of a crowd.

There's an mma gym that is close with my boxing gym and they always have a couple of their guys fight on shows that my gym puts on.

What's holding you back? Both MMA and boxing are contact sports. Are you afraid of getting hurt? You will never know if you're going to like it until you try it.

the only way to get better is to fight. mma fighters i encounter suck at boxing, and need to learn a few lessons about fighting thru boxing. take your amateur fights and you will improve a hundred fold. your mind will sharpen up and your skills will come together. most importantly, you will be relaxed and be ready to get down to business when the bell rings for real. good luck.
