I was always taught that the rope if folded in half, should go from the floor, to your shoulder or chin. I usually step on the folded part and make sure it reaches at least the top of my shoulder. You can always adjust it by cutting it in the future if it's too long.

Stand in the middle of the rope and pull both sides up by your sides, if when you point the handles inwards they are around your hips, that's the perfect size.

i use a nike speedrope.....love it!!!! i get some mad speed when i do crossovers....also it's easily adjustable. Anyway the way to get the correct length rope is to step on the rope feet only slightly apart (or it might be together...weither way close), bringing the handles to your armpit. They should reach your armpit. That is how you get the best length rope for your height.

You can have it a bit longer.....i find if the rope is a bit longer than you need it is harder to control (especially a speed rope) and you need to exert more energy-----> i find it hurts shoulders, biceps etc faster if rope is longer.
