amateur gloves are even designed so that your hand is less clenched. they aren't made for power shots. work on everything. if a knockout doesnt come, dont bother turning your shots over.

edit: that being said, i always use speed. putting together 5 fast shots is easier that putting together a huge 1-2. jam a dude up, step out, 5 shots, turn em, 5 shots, turn em back, dip under, jab goin back.... the best rhythm against a pressure fighter

The guys in the gym and my trainer says speed brings power. Speed kills pretty often in a lot of things. Especially boxing. The speed is more intimidating to me than a strong guy. You can always get out the way of a power punch if you can sense it or see it come. Speed kills when you don't see it.

Surely if you hit hard you will wear the other fighter down and make him less effective? Or should you go primarily for point scoring or mix it up?

        Your thoughts?

It is pretty irritating when a opponent beats you to the jab again and again.

well, sorta. if that were the whole truth fighters like chris byrd wouldve had a lot more than a 10% ko ratio.

If your a guy who is throwing everything into every punch and is effecting your technique or this is causing you to be ineffective or some issue that your coach sees then this is probably why he is telling you this. It may be something your coach is telling you to make you improve specifically. Hopefully you got a good coach that you can trust. Having a coach who you trust is very important and you need to have it with them if you want to have the best chance of being successful. Depending on the fighter and the way you describe yourself as a punching this seems like good advice.
