  • New to boxing

    Hi All,

    I am new to this forum, and new to boxing. I have my first session with a trainer this weekend.

    I would like to know what exercises etc I could do to get my conditioning up, I am only doing the boxing for fitness and I have always wanted to learn how to box properly, I am 35.

    I was thinking of doing some cardio on the treadmill at home as well as skipping and some bag work. I also need to buy a punching bag for home, does anyone have any recommendations on bag weight, height etc. I noticed at some of the sports places local to me in Australia, they have 3ft, 4ft and 5ft bags. Any recommendations anyone could give me would be appreciated or any other general advice

    Thanks, hope to spend alot more time at this forum

    Conditioning excersices;

    Fartlex Training
    Underwater Swimming
    Boxing Circuits

    Best Three without question

    And get the biggest, heaviest bag really. It will get your hands conditioned.

      Do lots of shadow boxing, maybe like 5 rounds of 3 minutes since youre just starting and EMPHASIZE on proper technique, keep throwing jabs, hooks, uppercuts one at a time using proper technique, once you get them down start piecing them together and form combinations. Dont start trying to throw all fast, take it easy and get down the proper technique, good luck in your training!!

        you'll learn boxing and you'll get in shape with time and patience and the right mind set. don't go in there expecting things will be easy cuz they won't, mentally tell yourself it is ok to suffer and struggle cuz that's boxing. it's a beautiful sport but it takes dedication to whip you into shape. all these technical tips you'll learn along the way. but be mentally ready, protect your hands (learn how to wrap properly) and take care of your body. best of luck to you as you learn boxing

        btw youtube is a goldmine full of boxing knowledge. so go on there and explore the many different videos out there that can teach you a lot
