  • Practice bob & weave lower than needed?

I worked out at the rec hall at my work today, and wanted to practice bob & weave. So i tied my jumprope to the drinking fountain spout and a coat rack at the same height so i could bob and weave under it.

Im 5'10 and all legs, so its a pretty good exercise for me being that i have a long way to go down.

My question is, do you think it would be benficial to practice this lower than actually needed? When doing it at the boxing gym, the rope is higher, more at chest level. Today, i was doing it at about stomach level which is more challenging.

we get taught to move the minimum amount required. because thats all you need. knowing how much you have to move is realy important because the more you have to (or think you have to move) the further you have to move back. it makes you slower, tyers you out quicker and is harder to counter from. maybe do exercises mimicking exaggerated movements to help build explosiveness in them but when actuarially training i think stay close

i practice the slip further then needed sometimes.

i just do it in the mirror keeping eye contact with myself the whole time.

its just eccentric training for my legs, i feel it makes me slip faster and i dont have to bend my knees as much when im slipping normally.

more important then the slipping further then needed is not looking at the ground and keeping proper eye contact.

It'll strengthen your legs, but that's the only real benefit and you could do the same thing just doing some bw squats or lunges.

You want to make your bobs/weaves/slips/rolls as quick and efficient as possible so you can counter quicker. If you're dropping too low, then you're gonna be slower and miss your oppourtunity to counter.
