So by asking this I assume that you fight at your walking around weight ? A lot of fighters lose a few pounds to fight in the class they do to give a slight advantage. It works better for pro's since they have 24 hours to hydrate back up.

If you have the money go to a fitness gym and hire a personal trainer for a month or 2 and ask for tips on your goal. They will start you off right. What kind of food to eat, how to exercise and lift weights, ect. You just gotta do it right to get what you want. When I use to lift weights I was faster than ever and strong. I only do boxing now because I don't have the money to go to both gyms. Don't be scared of losing speed, it's not true ! Well it depends on how your lifting too. That's my advice to you because it has worked for me in the past. I went up about 12 pounds working with a personal trainer. I know it was some water weight but some definitely muscle also. Water weight is really easy to gain. Muscle weight takes longer because it builds slowly. Don't quote me on this, I forget the exact amount but it's like a quarter of muscle per week or something like that, a small amount.

The way I found my gym is the internet. I just typed in boxing gyms for my area. I emailed and called up some. Price was first, if I could afford it. Than credibility, look at the fighters they have, do they have any pro's fighting out of the gym, ect. I just went from there.
