Do heavier gloves really help with hand speed and endurance?

Actually, Amir Con wanted Maidana to wear 180 oz gloves.

It would definitely help with arm/muscular endurance. The handspeed part is controversial. Some say it does, some say it doesn't.

Andre Berto trains with 20oz gloves, and we all know how fast he is. However, I notice Berto throws wide punches in his fights, but he can get away with it most of the time because he throws so fast.

I have heard that Cotto spars with 20oz, and he isn't really that fast. When Cotto fights, his guard has an odd opening. It's like he thinks he has 20oz gloves on, aka the big shield.

As for me, I like to hit the bag with 20oz, and spar with 16oz. Training with 20oz, I can definitely notice the improvement in muscular endurance. It's much easier to hold my hands up now, especially in 16oz.

As for the handspeed part, I don't know. If training in heavier gloves doesn't increase handspeed, but if one were to believe he is faster by using lighter gloves, then that is already a positive mental attitude. Even if it's a placebo affect, as long as he thinks it's working and it's providing a psychological positive attitude, then what's wrong with that?

i blew my 20 oz out on the bag in a month. 16s on the bag, different 16s for sparring, sometimes tens on the bag. 20oz is pretty negligible IMO. its good to experience it tho, find out for yourself!
