if you run a lot and bike a lot your muscles become tighter without stretching, they start hurting at the joints, such as the knees, ankles, hip bone. so i would advise: start with stretching your quadriceps, hamstrings, groin muscles, calf and shin muscles.

i understand what the discussion is by the way: squats need to be performed correctly or they are really bad for your knees. HOWEVER, when your legs become stronger, the muscular connections (tendons) around the knees also become stronger, which means the knee becomes more stable, stronger. so the effect of squats make ur knees stronger, but actual squatting impacts ur knees, which is really bad without proper form.

And also be sure that you indeed have the correct feet shape. People with high arc between the smallest and the biggest finger (on foot) will experience pain running on balls of their feet without inserts (insert them in shoe like Vibram) made by orthopedist.

Hei Smash do you also use Softstar shoes for boxing?

Flat foot, medium arch, high arch, neutral arch, all can benefit from the barefoot simulation style of running. I used to be flatfooted, but after months of running in minimalist type shoes such as Vibram Fivefingers and Softstarshoes Runamoc Lite, I notice an arch developing, and I just feel my feet/legs are much stronger overall than before.

As for people with high arches, they need the least amount of time to get used to wearing minimalist type shoes.

Inserting any kind of support device or orthotic inside them is pointless and goes against the purpose of these kinds of shoes, which is to have no support at all to strengthen the feet/legs.

            Smash,

I doubt that bear foot or Vibram is good for high arch foot. I have both arches high - the one between middle finger and thumb and the one between thumb and heel.

Because of this the pressure is very strong on the outer side of the foot. Because of the pressure not being equal on whole foot you get pain on some areas of foot and also strange pain in knee (not very strong pain).

Being bear foot won't make the "missing parts" on the foot grow....the arc will always stay the same.

Again - so what do you and your brother use for boxing (which shoes)?

i jog a lot. a couple months back, my knee caps started to hurt. then i went on vacation for 6 weeks and hardly ran at all.

              now the pain is gone.

my advice: rest. like a long ***** rest. not just a week. give it several weeks off.

I have had .It's just similar to shin splints I think .To me it sounds like an inbalance or not enough good insoles (running on hard ground , downhill , uphill etc ) I had sore knees useing single strike insoles .These are the best and good for it .I think if you keep it up you'll end up with runners knee

I would defintley replace my insoles .Also make sure you stretch your calfs hams and quads .I found when I don't stretch off before I run my knees hurt as well and after.

Did you get some kind of injury to your feet in the past, that is still effecting you today?

And sure, the arch may "look" like it stayed the same after spending time doing physical activities barefoot and/or minimalist type shoes, but all of the muscles in the feet/legs that we didn't even know we had, strengthens up, and restores balance. What shoes do you use for physical exercise?

I use my Asics Matflex wrestling shoes to box, and my brother uses his Everlast Hydrolast boxing shoes to box. However, sometimes if we just got back from running in our minimalist shoes, we will just box in those, which is just fine.

No I was simply born with hi archs like some people with a flat foot....nothing serious but if you sport a lot it needs to be fixed somehow.

I'm actually using basketball shoes Adidas climacool spent around $100 for them.

I'm thinking of buying Adidas Trinity wrestling shoes BUT I can try minimalist shoes right now!
Besides boxing I windsurf and when it's cold we use neoprene shoes very thin like 3mm but even thinner bottom so you can really feel the smallest stone when walking...looks something like this and it even has a split toe:

I can give these a try and I'll also ask physiotherapist regarding it....great =)
