  • KO's in amature boxing

hi guys. how easy is it to knock someone out in amature boxing. after sparing a few times it seems that headgear offers absolutly no protection lol. also i was wondering how easy it is for an outfighter to KO people. i always assumed that infighters where better as they had the power punches like hooks / upper cuts.

True knockouts where the guy is close to or is completely out cold are really rare, like almost never.

RSCH's where the the guy gets knocked down or is wobbled and the ref stops it after an 8 count happen occasionaly.

It's because of the rules, as soon as a guy shows any sign of being hurt the ref gives a standing 8 count. So you can't wobble a guy and then jump right on him and land shots until he goes. It's bascially got to be one punch or a fast combination and not too many guys have the power to do that especially with the headgear (which does help a little bit) and the softer gloves.

I got a KO in my very first fight where the guy was out cold for quite some minutes. I went into the fight thinking it would go 3 rounds (always do this). And I didn't look for a KO at all. I remained calm the whole time, even after I scored a KD.

My second fight went a lot worse. Because I knew that I had the power to KO people, I started focussing on punching hard. This resulted in me putting power in pretty much every punch I threw, and even throwing more arm punches. Needless to say I gassed out. You just need to maintain good technique and focus on shooting your hands out fast and bring them back immediately, then the power will be there.
I didn't lose the fight but I took way too much of a beating than I would have wanted to.

      So as a summary:
Yes, true KOs are rare, but they are possible.
Don't try to score one, instead, remain calm and maintain good technique so that you don't gass out.

You'll find your knock outs happening mainly in the novice division where they have no idea what they are doing and are just throwing power shots. Most the time when someone lands a clean solid blow, that is a standing 8 count.

Another time you'll see them is when you see novice fighters step up, and fight someone that has had a **** ton of fights. Other then that, people getting knocked out cold doesn't happen very often in the amatures.

I have seen hundreds if not thousands of amature fights, and I think I have only seen 2 real KO's, and they were novice guys that got chought with a big shoot. No real skill. They are very hard to come by. The ref will stop it long before it come to any one get hurt.

I'm sure that happens to a lot of people. I stopped my first two opponents, then almost stopped my third in 20 seconds but he survived and I was spent half way though the second round and lost the decision.

It's not really easy to KO someone in amatures like people stated before if anyone shows signs of being remotely tired or gassed the ref will usually give them a standing 8
