    Disregarded Fundamentals?

We often hear of trainers and boxing experts lament the fact that many American boxers are neglecting the "fundamentals".

Now my question is, what are some of the most commonly neglected/overlooked fundamentals that it appears trainers are not ingraining in their fighters or that fighters appear to neglect in the ring these days?

Anyone with any info, insights, or intelligently-formed opinions in this regard, please do share them.

    Thanks in advance.

ehhh maybe dropping the right when they throw anything with the left, or just altogether keeping the hands low, or maybe starting combos with the right, or perhaps the lack of glance offs and parrying as a large part of the defense game, or maybe not keeping their chins tucked, or maybe not keeping their chins tucked behind the jab.

or maybe they arnt talking about technique but instead the actual training with people using hypoxia machines and only training for an hour or the lack of long runs in favor of weight lifting.

id say keeping the hands up, staying relaxed (which is a skill), bending the knees, never be a stationery target and basic footwork is commonly overlooked in american fighters even at the highest level.

Seems to be mostly related to defense.

Whenever I hear someone like Teddy Atlas talk about it on FNF, it's often about the lack of a snapping jab also. He talks about touching hot water, which is something few boxers keep in mind when they jab.

They jab, let the hand drop, and are left open for a dropping right hand.

Squared up feet, going back in a straight line with hands dropped(Think Judah-Tszyu). Starting combinations without a jab, or with a lazy jab.

I would say, turning punches over, stance/footwork and the old bobbing and weaving are three most common.

Some say keeping hands up is disregarded fundamental that has a negative effect but some top boxers do it because they have to be unconventional and to confuse their oppopment.

I'd say that is an experience thing.

Fundamental things a lot of fighters lack are your basic things. Bringing punches back to your chin, and keeping your hands up. Leading with unorthodox punches like lead uppercuts. Feet to close/to wide.

As was mentioned, "pulling" the right hand(Or left if southpaw) while throwing your jab. This is something almost every fighter does at the beginning of his/her career, and it continues if training habbits are not fixed or you have the worst trainer in the world(YOURSELF).

One of the biggest problems newer fighters encounter other then the above, is "admiring" your work. You throw a nice combo, and rather then move, you stand there just watching and waiting.

Your Fundamentals are your basics, such as throwing correct punches, bringing your hands back/keeping them where they belong, and correct SIMPLE footwork. A lot of fighters have the "Frankenstein" back foot, where they move 1/2 a STEP with their front foot, and just drag the back foot.

Couldn't be anymore accurate then that.

Some top boxers do it because they can get away with it.
