Jogging for 30 minutes a day is great. You should be doing 30 minutes a day minimum though. You should aim for 45 minutes a day. And jogging is bad for your knees and joints in the long run but you wont have that problem if you don't run on concrete or pavement and instead run on grass or sand or anything soft.

biking and running are good, muscularly they balance each other out but biking is easier so try to bike longer then you would jog and include hills.

You can do anything that will get your heart rate up. My knees are messed up right now (from running) so I skip, do burpees, shadow box, swim, use a rowing machine. Looking to get an exercise bike for cheap so I can do that too.

One good thing about running is it just works your lower body. It's hard to use a rowing machine in the morning and still have strength for boxing in the evening.

I like to use the stairmaster. you can go like three minutes on one minute off or something like that if you want to train intervals and its a good break on the knees from running

HAHA ya I'm sure that's what's discouraging you from trying it for a week.

On a serious, non-judgmental note, jogging will F your knees up if you do it for too long. Or if you're severely overweight.

I jog 3 miles a day and I hate every second of it. I have to play tricks on my mind to make me do it. But the bottom line is I do it because after all, Victor Ortiz does it and he has no heart at all. So if he can run a few miles, so can I.

Swimming would be a great alternative. Juan Diaz doesn't do roadwork, he swims.

To all of you who don't run due to leg/foot/knee issues, what kind of pain are you getting, and when does it occur?

Humans are meant to run. I bet it's all the high tech running shoes that are everywhere, causing these injuries. The extra "support" in these shoes just force you to heel strike (landing on your heels when running), which is very bad for the knees and body. You're supposed to either midfoot strike or forefoot strike.

I had all kinds of issues with almost all of the high tech running shoes you can name (Asics/New Balance/Brooks/etc). Knee injuries, ankle injures, hip pain, etc.

ALL of that went away once I discovered the "barefoot simulation" shoe. I use the newer BIKILA model. The KSO model is their most popular one.

                  The Vibram Five Fingers.

Yes the shoes looks hideous to most, but I am in love with these.

They have NO kind of support, which is healthy for the feet/legs. It takes time to get your foot/leg muscles to get used to not being supported, but it's long term benefits are wonderful.

I was 240lbs a month ago, I am now 220lbs running 3-4 miles everyday with NO kind of leg/foot/hip pain anymore! The first 2 weeks I dealt with plenty of soreness in the legs/feet, however (which is expected), and also foot blisters (which went away after rest, being replaced with protective callouses). And yes I run on concrete.

Try em out, you will have a hard time finding a negative review on them.

Yep. I saw this on HBO's sport show with Bryant Gumble about a month ago. In fact, the best way to run is barefoot, but that's pushing it beacuse you could step on glass or a nail etc.. The people in places like Kenya, Africa run barefoot, and they alway's land on the ball of they're foot, as opposed to the heal of they're foot. That's why they always win these long distance marathons and stuff.

I've seen this shoe/sneaker you speak of, and am thinking about getting a pair.
