  • Gaining size, but still maintaining speed and mobility

I am thinking I want to increase overall muscle mass and gain some size. Usually as a fighter you would want to strip down but I think I could maximize my assets by actually filling out a bit more and gaining strength.

My assets are a tight turtle shell defence, I'm a good counter puncher, I'm a good thinker, and I have good overall technique. I'm not much of a mover, my speed is ok but definitely nothing special, and I'm not really long and lean so I wouldn't be forsaking an advantage like that by going up.

I have the potential to gain size and fill out, my dad is a really stocky dude and most of my male relatives are pretty compact and solid, right now I'm a normal sort of build, but only through tons of training and a pretty clean diet. And no weights at all, and to be honest not really a lot of calisthenics either.

Do you guys think I could gain strength plus size and mass and still maintain current levels of speed and mobility? I just think I could be a more effective fighter that way, with a bit of added strength and muscle, and more authority behind my shots.

Also, would it be possible to gain just through calisthenics? Or would weights be necessary?

No, you just need to eat more.

        How old are you?

And it answer your last question -- no, you are not gonna gain size with calisthenics, in fact you might actually lose some flab and tone up a bit here and there but no size addition

          I'm 16 years old.

Are you sure? Well I don't have any flab to lose anyway. I swear I saw a poster on here Sukhenkoy I think, who said he gained size from doing calisthenics and eating bigger meals.

          Edit: found the post

          "Eat more and lift more.

Honestly, though, you don't need weight-lifting to gain mass. Over the summer I wasn't able to go to the gym and thus didn't work on cardio a lot, but did a ton of pushups and pullups and ate larger meals, and gained mass from it."

Mayb down the line by increasing your calorie intake. I saw your picture in the other thread, I would wait and just let your body take it's natural course for a while. You never know how you may be in 4 or 5 years. I'd work on speed and agility exercises.

You need a progressive overload and lots of food if you are looking to fill out your frame, your best years are ahead of you, so you just need a basic training plan with lots of big leg and back movements + lots of quality food. Your mass will come.
