Southpaw Natural Advantages Over Inexperienced Orthodox Fighters?

Am I the only one that finds that southpaw fighters, especially those whom are right handed yet still make use of their left, usually have the advantage over inexperienced orthodox fighters?

Me personally, southpaws gave me fits, so I began training in both orthodox and southpaw. I prefer southpaw, but I need to work on my left before deciding to make the permanent change.

Southpaws lose their advantage on the inside, if you can get inside, they lose their advantage.

Try your best to become a switch hitter like Marvin Hagler if your trying to learn both stances.

It is a very difficult thing to do, I've fought guys who were very talented switch hitters, and ones that werent so talented but were decent. When switch hitting comparing average to above average is like comparing a bobble head of George Washington to the one on mount Rushmore, i would only try it if you have very good natural timing, because its really about timing it well and knowing what your opponent reacts to.

One of my gym mates was a very good switch hitter and to practice his reflex he set up a pitching machine with tennis balls loaded inside, and have the machine spit out the tennis balls going very fast ( i believe 60mph) and hit the said ball with a jab(he was wearing gloves though). He then bought two and had them fire at random and had to switch constantly. I also recommend speed bag work and double end bag work more than heavy bag.

i agree with the last post, work on your accuracy and speed, but one important thing to add as a switch hitter myself: when u switch ur feet, keep it like that, make the choice, fight like that and switch back when u make the choice. don't get confused. and make sure u use ALL punches from both stances, that's where it gets really effective!

i am southpaw and i notice when i spar my biggest weapon is my right hook on the way out.. orthodox fighters have a hard time seeing it. i mean an orthodox can see the straight left coming but the right hook helps me out..
