  • Too old for Boxing?

I'm 18 turning 19 this November. I've always enjoyed watching boxing and have seriously gotten into it this year. I'm training at a local gym and hope to fight amateur one day. One thing that seriously brings me down though is my age. Now I know I'm not old, but in boxing, guys my age already have 2-5 years of experience. I know that through hard work and discipline I can do it, but how realistic is it for me at 18, training for 2 months already, go into it and actually excel? Just some stats on me, I'm 18 around 5'8 and 144 lbs. Thanks in advance.

You're never too old to start.

Marciano started when he was like 24 or something.

18 is fine. Hard work, discipline, and dedication is what counts. That alone will and can take you far!!!

If your serious about it, then you can do it. Boxing is a great sport, but it does take a lot of training. Ive been boxing for 30 years and i have seen so many people leaving after less than 1 year. In fact, i remember that in the first 5 years that i have boxe only 5 were still there from the day that i started boxing... 3 of them were Pro !

ull never be a world champion so it doesnt matter how old you are. u can always become a pro even if ur 31 or something if ur a little talented. of course it doesnt get easier but look at it from the bright side ull last longer than boxers that started out at a very young age bc of the wear and tear they go thru. so stop talkin and get ur ass in the gym

Thanks guys. I'll definitely take all the advice to heart.

Like I said before, 18 may not be old, but in training for boxing it could be. That's why I get discouraged at times, when I read about how other boxers started training at 12, 14, 15 years old. I know that hard work accounts for a lot, so that's what I intend to do. Work hard and train like a champion.

Go for it dude, don't listen to what other people say, ******s like Billrush. If you want it really bad, you can have it. Jus train hard, dedicate yourslef, and listen. Plenty of world champiosn started late, so it doesn't matter.
