    Southpaw advatage situational?

In my gym there is one southpaw who is a boxer/puncher. When he spars with other orthodox boxers, boxer/puncher, counter punchers, they all seem to have a hard time fighting him. But i' ma swarmer and like to work on the body before unleashing *******s of upper cuts and left hooks to the head, and i have no problem fighting him.

The main advantage of a southpaw is that a lot of people don't have experience against southpaws, while the southpaw most likely has a lot of experience against orthodox fighters.

Spar with southpaws a lot and you will be on even ground.

It's also due to the fact that strategy changes a bit as well when fighting a southpaw, your bread and butter that you normally use might not be as effective, so a person needs to learn new tricks exclusively for southpaws.

Exactly. I lost my last fight to a southpaw, most confusing fight I've had in ages. I hadn't even sparred one (once maybe, with a poor one) and I fought one that was pretty fast, good skills, very strong. It was just a nightmare in the first round, I lost that round very clearly, I just got tagged with lefts way too much, and my range was out.

Second and third rounds I adapted, probably won the second and evened the thrd, but still lost.

That's the thing, they know how to fight you very well, but often you have a hard time fighting them

swarmers i would say have an advantage, you arnt really looking for timing, to block everything they throw, or counter them; you just want to hit them and in that sense a body and a face are always going to be a body and a face.

This is the case. But then you see southpaws have difficulties with other southpaws. Its all about familiarity.
