Boxing: aerobic or anaerobic?

    Amateur boxing with 3x2, 4x2 or 3x3 (depending on age) rounds is I'd say about 80-85% anaerobic. Shorter more intense types of running like HIIT are more important, but the odd long run can be mixed in.

    Professional boxing with 6, 8, 10, 12x3 rounds is probably 60/40 or 50/50. Because of the length of the fight and the overall aerobic conditioning needed to go the distance, but also the anaerobic fitness to continually exchange punches at a high intensity, both HIIT and longer runs, and even a combination of the two (like a 6-8 mile run with 50-100m sprints every mile or whatever) need to be utilised.
