Questions regarding the phillly shell

    same thing i thought bam bam.. lately i have been watching him.. he was ill... i am southpaw and i have never seen a lefty fight like him.. i mean manny is good.. but evander had technique and a chin and good balance... and heart... but i like to use the philly shell on the inside... not much on the outside though... if i do i try to counter the straight right with my right hook

      yeah same. I never do it on the outside. Only when the opponent is up close and i'm near the ropes. I parry more when i'm on the outside.

        if you want to learn all the ways to best use the philly shell, watch the james toney vs iran barkley fight. toney dominates hard and barely gets hit.

        and while fighting philly shell and throwing a left hook, the muscular work is more of a spring unwinding and accellerating to the target, like roy jones, more than the conventional rotate and twist your arm in, like the tyson style hook.

        sugar ray robinsons many highlight reels i think show the best left hooks
        - some of david tuas left hooks are funny to watch aswell.

          that is one of the best fights i have seen of james toney...utter brilliance

            Actually, I think it's a great thing to imitate styles so you are able to feel and try out different maneuvers that fit you and your abilities. I just don't think it's a good idea to exclusively imitate one fighter.

            The only time I get into philly shell is if I'm safely distanced where I'm out of place of my opponents hooks and uppercuts, or if I'm only the ropes in an attempt to circle out of there.
