What are the traits a good outboxer needs?

Like the topic says, what are the attributes a good outboxer needs to be good?

    Is it speed?

    Reach?

    Good reaction time or defence?

What do I need to be a good outboxer?

Good speed, sense of timing and distance and good vision, a lil power won't hurt either, hehe.

Just having two out those 4 traits and along with great work ethic and discipline, you'd go far my friend.

well all of them are good. but for an outfighter or pure boxer like oscar or floyd the best imo are timing over speed. speed is great and makes you more affective but timing is what counts. oscar had superb timing/vision. condition and heart also.its tough when you have a guy taking your best shots so an outboxer with less power needs to be in excellent shape, and be disciplined and stick to the gameplan even when it seems risky.

i pick those b/c to a certain extent speed, power, reach, chin are all god given, so you should make it a point to improve in every aspect you can. you would be making a mistake to only learn one style of fighting(outboxing). become complete in all areas and you cant lose.

I'll see Mr. Shen's conditioning and intelligence and replace the latter with..... Excellent Footwork.

I never heard of a outboxer with no footwork.

hmmm footwork didnt really think of that though i agree without it it would be near impossible to achieve good speed and timing.

It kinda goes hand in hand with speed as there are many different aspects of speed the speed of your combos the speed of your fist the speed of your feet the speed of your head ect.

I could have said foot work is what i meant by speed but i prefer to have said what i said as it alludes to more then just the speed of the footwork.

A good sense of distance is crucial, timing and hand speed are big factors too

Reach is only an advantage if you know how to use it
