  • scared to fight?

    lemme put it like this when my manager tells me theres a show coming up on a certain date i try to find excuses to get out of it, i feel scared and its because iv been matched up pretty badly in the past, dont get me wrong if i do have a fight i wont back out from it. but heres an incident that happend which makes me anxious to fight again. (my manager told me were travelling to another country to fight another club he says the guy has roughly the same record as me, so i agree i get to the weigh after arriving on the plane to find a bunch of boxers in a room its quite interesting cause no one knows whos fighting who all i remember was listening to peoples weights and match them up anyways i hear my opponent is 75kg, im only 70kg and i also find out hes had alot more fights, so it comes to the fight hes a lot bigger older more exp and the bell sounds he beats me from corner to corner for the 1st round, 2nd round hes beating me and my trainer throws in the towel. how do i go about this am i the only person who gets a bit scared to fight or do some of you also get the same feelings?

    Just be honest with your trainer. You don't have to tell him you're scared, but tell him that you want to take some time to improve your skills (which will help your confidence), and ask him if you can get a couple fights with guys that are on your level.

    If he isn't ok with that and keeps trying to put you in fights with guys alot bigger/better than you, then find a new trainer becuase he obviously doesn't give a **** about helping you develope. Especially if your trainer is lying about how many fights the guy has just so you will agree to take fight.

    It's good to put guys in with more experienced opponents as a test and so he can learn, but not if he keeps getting beaten on.

      I used to feel the same way a few years back...now, I just go out there to have fun... regardless of the outcome. If you're doing boxing with fear.... might as well not do it. Or as scott mentioned, be assertive and tell your trainer that you don't feel that you're ready..and need some more training. I'm sure he'd understand unless he's an *******.

      Btw, if you're trembling with fear..that means that you really aren't ready to be competing yet. Spar more, do smokers and you should start to feel more comfortable in the ring in front of people

        Do a lot more sparring, it's just a mental barrier, it can be broken.

        Just need to get more used to being hit/hitting back.

        Also tell him his matchmaking is bollocks

              That's a young Mike Tyson, believed by many to be the best heavyweight ever, crying before fighting a guy that went on to be a nobody.

              I think that emotion and fear made him a better fighter.

                Without sounding cheesy or ****, you have to know fear to beat it, and it's them that have beaten fear that are the bravest men

                  This. Be honest with your trainer, and if you don't have a trainer that you can be honest/full open with then you need to find one that you can be. That'll be one of your biggest assets in the long run.

                    Being scared isn't all that uncommon. You can overcome it by sparring more and just getting more experience. Also learning to control your fears and emotions is key as well.

                    But you need to get a better ****ing manager. Seriously. He obviously isn't looking out for you.


                    I'd ditch your manager and either manage yourself or give the responsibility to someone you trust.
