Three things I teach my fighters when learning to throw the jab are:

#1 - Do not lean in with the jab. A lot of fighters have been taught wrong and lean in or stretch with the jab. It's important to keep it compact and short. If you want to gain distance you do it with your feet, not your arms. Leaning will get you countered very easily.

#2 - Do not telegraph the jab. So many fighters, even veteran fighters have a twitch or small tell tell sign they are throwing the jab. Like lowering their hand slightly before throwing it. It's very important you throw directly from the chin, I always teach this to beginners because it's a very hard punch to see when you throw it this way and can't be countered as well.

#3 - Tuck your chin under the shoulder when throwing the jab. I always teach to jab "up". A little higher than the actual target because it automatically makes fighters bring their chin down and it tucks the chin under the lead shoulder.
