  • Me sparring for the first time

Im in the red. This was my first time sparring about 1yr 1/2 ago. Im about 5'9" and 130lbs. I was nervous cause the guy had like 20lbs on me, but it was fun! Let me know what you think tho I'm open for critique and tips. I've gotten better since this video was taken so hopefully I'll have some new footage for you guys sometime soon. Oh yea, don't ask about the music that's what the gym owner Coix likes to play lol.

I'm impressed if that was actually your first time. You have great instinct as far as your movement goes and the shots the you pick. Also your technique is great for the level you tell me you're at. I fight around 118-126, might move up to about 130.

Good job for your first time. You hit him with some good punches. Keep working hard and post a more recent video of you sparring, so we can compare it to your first time sparring.

Yea that was my first time sparring, but I had been learning how to box since I was like 18 my freshman yr at college and I was a little bit past 20yrs old in this video. That was my first time ever getting in the ring and sparring with someone, but I was already learning how to box since I was 18.

But thanks man, I do a ton of shadow boxing tho I mean almost anytime there is a mirror around I will shadow box especially in a restroom lol. Also, my coach was really big on footwork so she would have us spend half of the practice just moving around, pivoting, and dipping.

From 118 to 130 that's watsup, you're probably really quick, can I ask how are you able to put on the extra pounds because adding weight is the hardest thing for me to do?

well...looked good for first time..as always u prob thought ur technique was much better and prob is..but when in the ring for first few times all that goes..one thing i will say and i'm sure u know it...after a punch your hands seem to drop then go back up..i myself do this...keep your hands lil more steady and in position..looks like at times u wanna paw at his incoming positions..kinda like u tryna catch the punch but your swooping too much...i liked your movement watched your feet and can tell your coach likes foot work..think i saw a few times where u tried to Mayweather block w your forearm..lol i'm cool w that actually...when u throw a punch fully commit...seems at times u start to throw..hesitate then go...makes it slower and easier to counter....i know this vid is older and not critiquing YOU jus the current video...but good job

Yes that is true about the technique because the whole time I was really worried about getting hit and I remember that is what I was thinking about the whole time. Also, I'm still trying to work on the not dropping my hands especially the left it's always too low. But yea, thanks for the tips and comments!! I was really nervous but I'm much more relaxed when I'm in the ring now. Do you do some boxing yourself because you seem to know quite a bit and have a good eye for boxing.
