    Wrist Pain

    I am a fairly new boxer and tend to keep injuring my wrists. I think I'm bending my wrist slightly just before the punch, especially on the left hook. I know that I need to work on my form. Can anyone recommend training gloves that provide superior wrist support?

    hand wraps work best mate

    like u said about the form. it could just be ur form. curl ur hands up a bit as ur guard

      Takes time to make your wrists and hands strong. Use wraps, wraps them tightly around the wrists (close your fist when making the last wrap around the wrist).

      You can also do wrist curls with dumbells to help you out.

        like most said wear wraps...if u cant find boxing wraps try using like deadlifting straps for your wrist...but honestly if your wrists are hurten all the time i'd say your not punching completly correct...at end of say a jab..i was taught to have ur index and mid finger knuckles turned down towards the ground...one should hit the target with those knuckles first...hooks are easy to hurt your wrist tho...there are two kinds of hooks..pulling hooks..and hmm cant think of term my coach uses now but there is another lol...that one is ur two knuckles facing your body w no turn..the pull is w the knucklesfacing up and doing kinda a swoop motion or churn motion lol..and only time i dont mean knuckles being vertical is the other hook the non pull...that may have confused u more sorry lol

          Try doing some lifting to increase your wrist and grip strength. Solely depending on wrappings and punching straight can have very problematic effects.

          Just make sure to give them long resting sessions once you do since they are almost always at use.

            this is true ..it takes time ,, i was like that too when i was a beginner ,,your wrists are not only your problem on your beginner days ,you would also injure your fingers and thumb ..me i always double my wraps around my thumbs sometimes three ,.. and you should also wear good gloves that protect your thumbs best! dont use a rotten gloves

              if your thumb will be your next problem i recommend using everlast gloves 12oz intermediate !

                if one is hurten their fingers and thumb then they are not punching right at all....now a beginner yes could have probs with this till they get the right way of punching..but a good coach has taught them that b4 they get in2 intense bag hitting

                  I've had trouble with my wrist for a while, and there are a few ways to fix the problem.

                  One is to make sure you are wearing wraps like everyone above me stated.

                  Another is to make sure you keep your fist tight when you throw a punch. Especially on the heavy bag. It's a whole lot harder for your wrist to bend in either direction if you keep your hand tight at the point of impact.

                  You can also wear some sport tape on your wrist. Just enough so your wrist doesn't bend backwards all the way. I started using tape recently and it's been very helpful.

                  Ice your wrist as well and rest it every once in a while.

                  As for gloves that offer wrist support I'm liking the Rival Training gloves, or the hayabusa gloves.

                    well, nice that u actually started a fighting art - most people are too damn scared or wimpy to maintain.


                    first, if u are injuring your wrist, examine how you are punching. wrist is ALWAYS straight. don't forget.

                    two, that means learning how to get your elbow to back up your wrist.

                    three, dont worry about wraps or **** like that. it sounds like u need technique work first. never, NEVER, allow wraps to enable a bad habit.

                    work your technique/method first. gloves and wraps will not matter after.

                    edit - u should never need to rely on something if u use the right method.
