Spar spar spar. Just spar and you'll learn combos and what works and what doesn't. All the other stuff is good (shadow boxing, heavy bag, ect ect) but sparring is where you really learn to get better at your craft.

Well, just one simple and very effective.
      I'm not a southpaw,but believe me,this one is great,jab(more a feint)+straight left hand+right hook then you move.

My favorite combo is a right jab, right hook, and left straight. I love this combo because I use my hook to into either hit you into my left or aim the sharp "right 2 the temple" lol withe enough strength to pull your hands down In one swift motion and hit a wide open face with my left. Works all the time.

                just my 2 cents:

basic jab left straight combo, and lead right hook (if you have fast hands)

that's all you need, and feint...all night

                no smoke and mirrors

Thatjamaicanguy are you southpaw? I am naturally southpaw and it's not as simple as just feints and 1,2's all night. Footwork dictates my choice of punches as well as which should lead first since orthodox fighters don't feel comfortable with our angles. If you're southpaw you know what I mean. That you can lead with either hand unlike orthodox fighters which usually setup behind their jab and I understand you saying hat all you need is 1's and 2's but it's so much more than that.

no i'm not a southpaw. and thanks for enlightening me, i appreciate it.

and i recognize that fighting a southpaw is more difficult and awkward than fighting an orthodox fighter. but it shouldn't be difficult, because if you choose to fight a southpaw, you should take it upon yourself to be prepared

unless you're fighting a Zab Judah type southpaw or Pernell Whitaker southpaw.

Then it's a totally different story than fighting a Marvin Hagler or Pacquiao

South Paw mit work out #2

Sorry guys, I got my brains scrambled this week I hit enter like a douche with first post. Mit work out #2 Have your handler open with a nice right hook slap on your left gaurd. Keep your left arm up high(any goood southy knows that) after impact quick right jab to his left mit, followed by a hard stright left or cross (depending on your workout) to his right mit- handler will then throw a sweeping left hook- duck- coming up into a nice fast right hook-followed by a left hook with lots of hip behind it. step and move- rinse repeat get sweaty. yet another good mit work out that forces defence and balance. also makes you focus on foot work. take it from a natural southpaw. footwork and accuracy are our most importanat tools.
