  • First day in an actual boxing gym....before you post read this

If you never actually trained.and just been to regular ol gyms......im gunna tell you now.all (most) of your questions will be answered by taking one visit to a actual boxing gym and training for one day...

damn , questions about lifting, weigh control, blah blah blah, just get in there and youll understand.i believe all this stuff will fall in place by actually just TRAINING.i dont think i even have to really lift anymore.hitting that bag for a about 45 minutes will work muscles you never even know where there i dont care how many weight you lift.

i sweat more than i ever have in my life...and ive been runnning on a damn threadmill for i dunno how long now.and today just kicked my ass like i never ran a day in my life.

its a whole different thing.so just do it! (sorry nike!)

thats good that you finally got in a gym and took the initiative.

as far as not lifting weights, that is honestly up to you but i wouldn't stop weight lifting just because i get a good workout in a boxing gym. One can build endurance from just hitting the bag but i don't think i know of anyone that stops running because you get a good endurance workout from hitting the bags or doing mitt work or jump roping. one has to build up their body in different ways so that it all comes together in the actual sport's training and then in the fight. if one wants to hit harder they are going to pivot harder(do leg workouts), contract the core harder(do core workouts), shoot the arm out with all that bottle up torque(all upper body muscles contribute to transfer that energy) and then there is muscular endurance. everything works together and if you want to skip out on getting your body to that next level in your sport then go for it.

if you lifted weights and your sore after just hitting the bag then that means you have been neglecting muscles group during your weight lifting.

running doesn't require a lot of overall endurance, just mainly the muscles in your legs which wont cause your body to need more oxygen unlike when your boxing: dancing around, defending, punching back on top of the mental aspect that can drain your physical energy.

in the end its good that you got yourself in the gym and started to learn the sweet science. good luck
