I personally can't stand push-ups so I basicaly do pull-ups instead, sit-ups, medicine ball, rope but also a bit of sandbag action, either for conditioning or when shadow boxin. Nice to feel light as a feather afterwards.

Yes all my training is now old school. I used modern advancements in training and nutrition (TM) (which is code for lots of expensive equipment and pharmaceutical grade food supplements) for 19 years. Then aged 38 I realised that it was all bull**** and switched to the methods than mankind used for hundreds of years prior to the invention of 'marketing' and started to get much better results.

I don't do many body weight exercises, because I'm a slack son of a *****. One thing I don't pass up though is core work with the medicine ball. If you're going to get slugged in the guts you wan't some steel in there.

As far as actual boxing, there are definitely some old school techniques that I find valuable.

You gotta have a mix. Old school is great with things like medicine balls and heavy bag work, shadowboxing etc but science has improved so trainers can make more effective use of their training time. For example its pretty common knowledge these days that long distance running is not nearly as useful as old school trainers thought it was.
