  • New to boxing

Hey everyone, I am joining this forum since I am going to start training today and I figured this would be a good place to come get some guidance and meet like minded people.

I'm 29 yo. and I come from a running background (5k's and half marathons) so I am hoping the endurance I've gained from that will transfer over well. I also don't have plans to go pro, but I figure I'll fight some amateur matches.

That being said, what should I realistically look at for a training regimen at the gym? I am thinking of still running 3 days a week while training/sparring/basic lifting another 3 days a week (with rest as my body dictates).

Anyway, I am amped on getting started so any other advice is appreciated.

Boxing is great you have made a good choice starting. The regimen typically varies from gym to gym but the basics of a warmup, shadows, bags and padwork (with optional sparring) are pretty constant.

long distance running will have some benefits in boxing. however, interval training will give better results.

for weight training, check out http://www.stronglifts.com for a beginner's weight training program that will build strength without focussing on building huge muscles.

like he said do interval training ur distance is good for maintaining weight and some breathing..but doin sprints will help u best specially since u have the distance goin for u already..dont leave distance out completely but focus more on sprints as a fight is more like a sprint...most important dont get discouraged...its not as easy as it looks and the training is harder than track..i know i was a sprinter in college boxing is way harder training wise...jus stick it out and funny we are in same boat kinda i'm 29 but have had experience boxing for a while and even do some coaching now when my coach is gon
