I actually had to switch to southpaw mid bout after I dislocated my shoulder (**** know how).. the only hard part of switching sides is losing power in the rear hand, but seeing as my left arm was ****ed I didnt have to worry about that
Losing power is the least of your problems. It ****s with your balance, angles and timing. When you're used to fighting orthodox/southpaw somethings become second nature, ( countering, range, combos etc) when you switch stances you have to think over what you do more.

Learning to fight southpaw if you're used to fighting orthodox isn't something I would advise someone to do. ''Jack of all trades and master of none'' comes to mind somewhat.

Rather master the side you are more confortable in. If you are competing the problem is that defense is the last thing you learn. It is becoming a trend lately to put the dominant in front lately

Abit like Andre Dirrell, Marvin Hagler or Cotto?
it all depends on how long you've been boxing IMO.. if you are an open class fighter than yeah go for it.. But if you are still a novice just learn how to fight Orthodox first
