  • Eating carbs in the evening

This is just something I'm a little unsure about and would like cleared up.

I know that you're not supposed to eat carbs before bed since if you don't burn them off, they'll get stored as fat. What I want to know is, what exactly qualifes as "before bed"? Is it OK to eat carbs (brown rice for example) with your final meal of the day after your training/workout if you are not going to sleep for about 3-4 hours afterwards?

I never eat anything within 3-4 hours prior to sleep, but if I'm not doing any exercise after eating these complex carbs, will they get stored as fat overnight?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Here is what works for me.

When you want to lose weight (what I am doing), I stick with as few carbs as possible, after my 8-10pm workout, protein drink, then asleep at 1-2 am. It keeps me going, and the breakfast the next morning is really, REALLY tasty because I am so hungry.

If you want to put on size and strength, your body will need the carbs and protein combined to help with quicker muscle recovery, as well as protein synthesis (amino acids, to protein, to be used as the building blocks of muscles) Does this mean have potatoes and pasta at night? No. But if afterwards you eat something like a banana or two, or even a sandwhich, that really helps with recovery, but at sacrificing the extra (even though if minimal) fat loss.

EDIT: Whoops, DIR, you asked if you didnt workout out. My bad. The rule that works for most is 4 hours before bed, so yeah, you arent doing anything detrimental.
