catching a jab is not good .. ur opponent may fake a jab then land a fast hook to ur chin ,coz u will create an opening to ur chin if you do the catching! BOOOM BLINK OF AN EYE !!

that.... and when you step in slip his straight punches, try to time him.

hardly any fighters ever "catch" jabs

i think it's only counter-punchers like Floyd and the Marquez bros. that catch punches

try to fight laterally, going left to right ,throw in some upper body movement and try to close the gap.

Make sure you slip to the outside of his left jab, and not inside it. By slipping outside you put yourself out of the way of his right. Try slipping to the outside of his jab, and as you are slipping, you hit him with a jab to the body, then come over the top with a right to the head.

Then follow up, once you are at your distance you have to stay there. Mix up shots in close, uppercuts, rips, hooks over the top, follow him if he tries to move back or sideways, even spin out (swing your back leg around as you throw the left hook) and attack from a different angle. Just work, work, work.

When being shorter should one rely on its hooks and uppercuts more then the jab and cross? And should i just avoid trying to headhunt a taller guy and just go to the body instead none stop?

Dont headhunt unless hes leaving it open, go to the body as it will be the lower/easier target against a taller fighter, but once he lowers his hands to cover up his body as you are hitting it, then very quickly throw a left hook or right straight/cross to his head and keep working the head until he picks his guard back up, then back to the body... You have to be inside very close to him for this all to work though, and make sure if youre going to be body punching alot that you are actually hurting him with the punches, because if they arent hurting him he wont feel the need to cover up and just back up and jab you... I hope you guys are fighting in a ring as if you are youll have tighter space and be able to trap him in the corner/against the ropes, but it sounds like a backyard match to me (correct me if im wrong), so if you dont have somewhere to trap him, itll be harder to impose your will on the inside, but just make sure when you do get inside, fire off that power shot to the head once he covers up his body, and if you dont fire it off quickly, hell back up and you'll have to find your way inside again, which can be a headache against a significantly taller fighter with long reach
