shoulder pain

  • shoulder pain

    i was hitting the heavy bag yesterday and everytime i would throw a straight right hand my should would hurt. same thing with the right hook. i mean i could still punch effectively but it hurts and just feels uncomfortable. should i stay away from heavy bag work for a while or what should i do? does this happen to anyone else?

    I assume you might be like me? Hitting the bag and boxing for a workout and you don't do it at a gym or competitively? However, If you are at a gym just talk to your trainer, otherwise:

    #1 Stop. Stop hitting the heavy bag until that pain clears up. The left side of my body is naturally weaker than my right - I had the exact same problem you describe except in my left not the right. I stopped hitting the bag for a week, soaked in a salted hot bath every evening, and applied muscle balm to the effected area a few times a day. You can easily mess yourself up - do you have neck problems? I couldn't turn my neck to the left until I was healed. Took a full week.

    You probably pulled something back there, but imagine if you continue to hit the bag and a tendon, rotator cuff or somethin tears - say hello to surgery and a much longer lay off.

    Also, having a wife or girlfriend massage it out helps too
