How good is cold water/shower for the body?

i heard it's suppossed to be real good, i know about it improving blood circulation and in turn allowing muscles to heal faster but what else?
and for the people that no what they are talkin about, should it be cold water, or "ice" cold water?

for instance, if i just happened to have a frozen over river somewhere around here, should i go skinny dipping in there every morning?

That's a brilliant idea. If the river is "Frozen Over" just go ahead and jump right in.

          google contrast showers.

basicly you get in a cold shower for 30 secs then warm shower for 30 secs, then cold for 30 warm for 30, do this for 5-10 mins but you always have to start w/ cold shower end w/ cold shower

and you cant go too cold then too warm. just go from cold to warm, not freezing to hot
