  • my first post in t&n i think

hey i got a question for the pro boxers out there... when did u decide to turn pro??? i ask cuz i feel as though im ready.. it a choice i made since my first day in the gym... its only been about a year since ive been boxing.. i wanted to turn pro my first day in the gym... i had a lot of confidence in myself... and it was really the only thing i had a passion for... so ive been sacrificing a lot of things... especially money so i can box... i have a 7 year old nephew i take care of... my brother and his fiance were in an auto accident and arent here anymore.. and seriously... my life right now is at the bottom... im in huge debt... and im accumilating more and more debts by the week... forget a relationship or a social life.. i sacrificed that a long time ago... i work, box, train, and make sure me and my nephew dont go hungry... i know a lot of yall are going to say im not ready and stuff... it may be a lil premature... but my will can out do that... i believe it will... i have a real caring coach thaqt believe in me... he feels its time so its gotta be right... man i can be blind and win fights with him guiding me... he is surely a great man that the world may never find out about... but im glad i found out about him... i trust the man 100%... he is goign to be my manager as well... i sacrifced a lot of things for this... i gave up making decent money cuz one day i belive that i would make more in boxing than what i did before... im not exactly what u would call educated... but i do have street smarts... and im a good talker.. if this doesnt work out i can go right back to working 60 hoursw a week in sales... even if it means im miserable... u know i dont know why im posting this up... im not here to show off.... im not blowing anything out of proportion.... im not trying to get ur pity or nothing... i need to know your expierence in turning pro... what mistakes u made.. if im overlooking anyhting... let me know whats up... thanks

whats ur amateur records. If he's ur manager, keep ur eyes close to the contracts and everything being made. Boxings a dirty sport breh, protect urself and dont trust anyone.

8-1 is not good man. U should atleast do 40. Amateur is to perfect ur mechanics. U gotta have it down to instincts b.

Boxing 1 year and 9 fights? Not a good idea to turn pro in my opinion man. If your really in an absolute rush to turn pro, which you shouldn't be, I would say try and get like at least 25-30 amateur fights under your belt.

My friend is turning pro in May. He has 15 fights I think. His record is like 9-6 or something like that. Very good fighter, hard worker, most his losses were real close fights. I've been trying to tell him he's not ready to go pro and the things is he actually will admit he's not. He just promised himself if he didn't turn pro by the time he was 25 he would quit so he's doing it. He's trying to get as many fights in before May as he can. I still think it's a bad idea.

the majority of pro boxers dont make alot of money!!!! especially if your not a stand out amateur. i would advise you to fight in big amateur tournaments and gauge your skill. if your trying to make it your life give it 1000% every single minute of training no breaks. some pros give up boxing after acouple of fights because reality sets in.

hey guys thanks for the feed back... most posts let me know that maybe its a lil too early to be turning pro which makes sense... i wanted to turn pro my first day in the gym... my teamates thought about 50 ameture fights would be a good expierence to have before turning pro (i guess they think like u guys too)... but they also think that if anyone is ready to turn pro under 10 fights.... that anyone would be me... its good to have the support of my teamates... but i would turn pro without their support anyways... and money is a problem... but i also understand that im not goign to be making big money from the start anyways... maybe about 10-15 consecutive wins before i get anything close to a 5 figure fight... so its not like im dreaming of a fantasy where i turn pro and all my problems will be solved... i know i have to struggle an already f-ed up life for another 2-3 years before things get better... thats why i have to turn pro now

thing is, u wont be getting any money. showtime porter is an olympian and won 99% of his amateur fights. thats 300 fights. He also trained with manny pac. This dude only gets 5k a fight.

porter had about 10 fights so far... i think hes on his way to making 5 figures... im sure someone like him got a signing deal from the get-go... its really not about what he did though... its about what im about to do... i gotta keep my head high and thiink about the champs in boxing history thats made it with lil to no ameture background u dig?

ive been talking over with family and close friends and it seems like ill turn pro after i give it all i got for the golden gloves...
