  • Dancing for lighter feet

    hi

    what type of dance should I learn for lighter feet? would something like jumpstyle help? and can you provide an instructional video?

    Considering that the best way to improve would be through a great deal of repitition, over and over and over, the ideal way to get lighter feet would be to move around the ring (or carpeted floor of apartment in my case), shadowboxing lightly, bobbing weaving, pivoting correctly, making sure you are on balance the entire time, because once your balance is gone, speed is kaput quite a bit.

    But if you really wanted to dance, and have it benefit you? Technichally ballet would give you great leg strength and incredible balance for long distance matches and sparring sessions. Otherwise break and tap dancing teach you to keep your feet close to the floor and glide them along, rather than lift them, which cuts milliseconds off movement time, but still noticeable.

        While high paced dancing could improve your overall rhythm and co-ordination and give you some decent cardio, to really get better footwork you need to be doing boxing specific stuff like shadowboxing while moving around, sparring drills where one stays in the centre of the ring and one moves aroudn trying to set up attacks with footwork, sparring drill where one is the aggressor practicing his aggressive footwork like cutting the ring off, and the other tries to manoveur around him and pivot away etc

          shadowboxing...jump rope...plyometrics...yoga...all for balance and coordination...learn to juggle while moving as well...
