Weighted Gloves? What do you guys think of them?

Fellas.....What do you think of bag work with weighted gloves? I have the title gel weighted gloves and have been working out with them on the bag. They have weights in them that go up to 5 pounds. Do you think it is a good idea? I like them because I feel like it is building strength in my shoulders. However, I have gotten mixed repsonses to people that I have asked about them. Some people say it could slow my punching speed down. What do you guys think?

Cant exactly see how it would slow your punches down, that seems to me like yet another myth of boxing, people used to say that lifting weights only slows you down....look how that turned out....it has been disproved in more than one way.

I tried some home-made hand weights that I shadowboxed with to try. It had a nice feel to it, not sure how effective it is though. I think as long as the weights are minor like 5 or under they aren't gonna slow your speed down. I think if the weights were heavier they would build muscles in a way that would change the way you throw punches for the worse.

i dont think it would slow you down, unless you used them all the time and did no other training.

you could try a progression thing (might need more weight though)

i remember reading about bruce lee's pyramid dumbell workout. was something like
        100 x 0lb
        100 x 3lb
        100 x 5lb
        100 x 7lb
        100 x 10lb
        100 x 15lb
        100 x 10lb
        100 x 7lb
        100 x 5lb
        100 x 3lb
        100 x 0lb

and im pretty sure it was to improve shoulder indurance.

I take it that is over a number of sessions throughout weeks of training ?

What do you mean 100x0 so as if you were doing weights but without the weights?

Abraham uses weighted gloves in a lot of his training. He says it makes him feelfaster when he boxes with normal gloves, builds power and teaches you to not drop your guard when you tire.

i have the same gloves and i used to use them every other day on days i would do padwork, heavy bag etc... it definitely made me a lot faster, but they get you REAL tired when you use them (duhh)... they definitely do work tho just try to throw fast punches when u use them
