The only way you can make shadow boxing a good workout is if you do it at a high energy level and incorporate your entire body, i.e. throwing a combination and immediately bob & weave, or step out and back in fast and throw another. Try doing it without any pauses. Anything can be a workout if you make yourself work. Making yourself work hard is all up to you, not the exercise itself. If you're aiming for weight loss though, do not shadowbox, there is much easier and more convenient ways to do so. Run or jump rope.
