anyone else suffered badly from shin splints?

i've been boxing training now for the last 2 months roughly and the pain is unreal.i don't want to give up the training and certainly not the boxing as im enjoying it too much.

i think im suffering from medial tibial stress syndrome to be exact but the doctor is useless tbh.i have an appointment with the physio this coming wednesday and im hoping he can help no end.

any tips?the tips i have so far are to ice pack the problem area every night after training and pretty much most nights.it effects me usually for a few days even whilst walking

for the time being i've stopped running except for at boxing and the skipping is not so good either but i don't want to stop doing it.maybe i wil have to though.

    cheers peeps

It happens to almost everybody when you first start boxing. I remember the pain and it was definitely irritating. I just remember it going away from one day to another.

You shouldnt do any running, jogging, rope. It's hurting you, the only thing you can do is rest.

Try swimming or riding a bike to get your cardio if they hurt really bad, but they will go away on their own eventually as your legs strengthen from the boxing/running and as your weight most likely drops.

i think cycling sounds like a good plan, keeping up with the cardio whilst keeping the ankles stress free.

I had the same problem before, and they developed into a stress fracture. Just swim more and cycle, and ease into your roadwork and skipping after taking a rest from them. Your shins should get used to the intensity after a while.

back when i played and practiced soccer regularly i developed shin splints. it was an unbelievable pain that i played through for at least eight years, since most people i spoke to regarding the subject said "resting" is the only way to rid myself of them). a friend of mine recommended this ice bath treatment and it was actually very, very effective. after three of these ice baths the pain went away and i have been running/sprinting quite comfortably since.

(ice dipping near the middle of the page)

FYI, i used four bags of ice (bought form my local 7/11) with around twenty frozen bottles of water. it was probably the most unpleasant thing i have done, but well worth it.

Rest. Then change your schedule to swimming and riding a bike or stationary bike .
