Well if it makes you feel better go for it.

Read the pack and look up the brand and read carefully if it causes drowsiness the day later or something, if not then fine go for it.

I've taken them before and I think they definitely affect your performance, concentrate on what's keeping you from sleeping (coffee, working out late, stress,...).

Not the best idea to get into the habbit of taking sleeping tablets to get to sleep. Id look in to whats causing you not to sleep i.e. stress etc and work on that instead of munching on pills. Lack of sleep will have a huge effect on your performance and recovery time so id suggest reading up on ways you can resolve it. Few tips thats helped me in the past:

1 - No caffeine after 3 in the afternoon
2 - No exercise before bed. Your not going to get to sleep with adrenalin rushing.
3 - No staring at your computer screen or TV at least one hour before bed. Read instead, you'd be surprised how much this can help sleep..
4 - You need to get a deep sleep so hit off any lights in your room
5 - Try different breathing techniques (loads of articles on this online)
6 - Dont worry if you do wake up at some points of the night. Many people (including myself) dont go all the way through without waking up a couple of times. Its fine. Go get yourself a drink then go back to sleep.

          Good luck

I suffer from insomnia, and no sleep medication really works for me. They either don't work at all, or they work to the point I sleep 16 hours and am still tired until I go back to sleep.

Not only that, from a car accident I was in I suffer from chronic neck and back pain, along with chronic migrains.

The main side effect of sleep medication is headaches. Does not work out to well for me.

You should weigh your options. You can either take them, and risk having that **** in your system and giving you performance issues, or you can not take them, not sleep, and suffer with performance issues.

Either way, people like us are pretty screwed!

Ive had sleeping problems for about 3 years now, Ive recently started using melatonin to get to sleep, it worked the first 2 days and then didnt work so well the other day.

In general though I feel like I get to sleep a little bit easier and wake up feeling good instead of like a zombie.

Ive tried sleeping meds like zopiclone and that stuff knocks me out but its bad to get into a habit of using it, plus I always feel like **** the next day and it affects my training.

This melatonin stuff is a natural hormone though, and it regulates your day/night sleep cycle. I recommend you have a try with it, but bear in mind just because it is natural doesnt mean its ok to take forever, long term it will probably mess up your bodies own melatonin production although theres been no long term studies.

Also look into 5-htp, this stuff increases the serotonin in your brain, which means more serotonin to convert to melatonin, apparantly its supposed to be better than just supplementing with pure melatonin, although I tried the 5-htp for a couple of days and it made me feel a bit off, so Im sticking with just the melatonin for now. Only been on it for about 5 days or so but my sleeping has definately improved, if only by a little so far, it definately has changed for the good.

My ex girl used to take Lunesta, she doesn't workout or anything. She really liked it, no side effects.

You should try Melatonin. Its a naturally occurring hormone that your body creates when it sleeps. You can get it in pill form and it won't give you the same side effects as other sleeping pills.
