Well along with hill running, tabata sets! They are unreal for building strength They work on the principal of 20 seconds work and 10 seconds rest over a period of 4 minutes. Work as hard and as fast as you possibly can for 20 seconds, then rest for 10seconds, over 4 minutes. A gym near me does an unreal combat conditioning class I've been to a couple of times incorporating lots of these! Squats, Burpees, Jumping squats, Single leg squat thrusts, Double leg squat thrusts, Jumping lunges ...these are all excellent bodyweight exercises for improving your legs' endurance and strength big time! Be ready for lots of pain though lol
btw it really helps if there's 2 of you doing these, pick 4 exercises and do 4 sets (of 4mins with 30 seconds rest inbetween) while the other keeps time and screams at you to keep going, then swap. Hope this helps!

running in sand or at the beach is a good workout. try and find a sand dune with a little incline and start running up and down it and the burn in your legs will let you know its working.

my old rugby coach used to use this when we screwed up at practice.
bend down like your doing a squat and jump straight up. i know it sounds simple and easy but do like 30+ of these and your hamstrings will be on fire

All the plyometric **** you can find on th enet, plus a good old game of association football, especially during the years where your body is growing. 90 mintues of twisting, turning, sprints, jogs, kicking the ball and the contact involved in tackling should help. Other invasion games involving alot of running and change of direction are good too, including basketball, hockey or gaelic football. Rugby; they only charge forward and gridiron is too stationary IMO (plus they are fat blobs taking too much breaks and have fat asses). I think football is the best for the legs, as you hit the ball and impact on tackle which strenghtens the legs and wakes up nerves you never knew you had in there. If you have had leg injuries, playing football is an ideal marker to see if you are fit again
